Our Mission
At Turn 1 Mystic, our crew have three main goals:
|
Teaching New Players
Duelyst is a wonderful tactical game - it challenges you to solve numerous rapid-fire puzzles each turn, from positioning your units correctly to deciding which cards you should replace from your hand.
But those fast-paced decisions can also make Duelyst intimidating to learn if you haven't played many CCGs before. Learning to find the best moves on your own requires lots of trial and error - with someone to show you the ropes, you can skip past the learning stage and jump straight into the awesome puzzle-solving experience.
At Turn 1 Mystic, we want to make Duelyst as accessible as possible. By producing guides aimed at players that have never competed in another CCG, we plan to help everyone climb up to Gold Division and S-Rank - not just veterans from Hearthstone or Magic: the Gathering.

Promoting Content Producers
Duelyst is still a young CCG - the game was only launched officially in April 2016, with a small but growing community of streamers, YouTubers and article writers. Players submit fresh content to Reddit and the official forums on a near-daily basis, but without a central archive for these community guides, many new players will never even realize that they exist.
When myself and a friend joined Duelyst in May 2016, we climbed to Gold together using advice from PandaJJ and Infiltrator respectively. Twitch streamers such as ItsKrazedHD and Hsuku were amazing resources for improving in Ladder and Gauntlet respectively, while Aranathi produced some excellent guides for taking the first small step into competitive Duelyst. And while all of those old decks have become outdated as the card pool has changed, these community guides allowed me to enjoy Duelyst as quickly as possible - shortening the learning period before and helping me to catch up with more experienced players.
At Turn 1 Mystic, we want to ensure that every content producer can become as popular as they deserve. If you already have thousands of followers, then we'll promote your content so that new players can benefit from your hard work. If you're a new face with only a handful of followers, then we'll promote your content so that you can become that big. Sharing your content on Turn 1 Mystic doesn't only bring you more followers - it means that more people will come to Turn 1 Mystic and discover everyone else's content as well.
We want to gather all of the community's best guides into a single website, so that new players are only a single click away from the content that they need to improve.

Building a Community
Turn 1 Mystic started out as a personal blog - I published my first article here after reaching Gold Division and drafted several more over the summer holidays, with the intention of publishing them from September to Christmas as a fun diversion from my university work. Back then, my only Duelyst-playing friends were the people that I had introduced to the game myself.
But once I started chatting on Discord and interacting more with the Duelyst community, I eventually made several close friends - players who enjoyed my content and wanted to publish through my website as well. My plans for Turn 1 Mystic changed enormously over the following months, but meeting new people through Duelyst was a huge push towards me building this community website.
At Turn 1 Mystic, we want everyone to find new friendships through Duelyst. By hosting a Discord server where players can voice chat during friendly matches, we plan to build an inclusive and laid-back community that people can visit whenever they want some company. As well as hosting a gallery of example decks for new players, we're also offering impromptu coaching for anyone who wants us to spectate their games, giving feedback either through voice chat or through written messages if you're feeling shy. If you just want someone to answer your questions, then feel free to stop by - we'll answer small questions on the spot and potentially write entirely new articles about the big questions that sound interesting.
Our goal is to be the friendliest and most cooperative community on Discord, with everyone sharing advice with each other and where you can meet new players through voice chat that you'll continue to chat with far into the distant future.
